Basement Cleanouts for Chamblee Homes

Sagging boxes, broken furniture, a dead chest freezer and soggy carpet all come up the stairs with our crew, not with you. You hear a clear price before anyone lifts a thing, you point out what stays, and we leave the emptied floor swept.

What a basement cleanout covers

A basement cleanout is junk removal done in the hardest room of the house to work in. Everything has to come up a set of stairs that is often narrow, steep and turns at a landing. Items that went down years ago in pieces, like a sectional or a workbench, may not come back up in one.

Basements also change what they store. Cardboard soaks up moisture from the slab and the air, softens, and grows mildew. Particleboard shelving swells at the edges and falls apart when lifted. Our crew plans for that with heavier bags, gloves and masks, and by carrying wet items so they do not drip across your finished floors upstairs.

It is the right call when the space is too full to use, when you are preparing to sell or finish the basement, or after water got in and left a mess. For a single couch or old fridge, our furniture removal or appliance removal pages may fit better.

What we handle in your basement

Boxes and stored household goods
Old clothes, holiday decor, papers, toys and the boxes they sit in. We bag soft or moldy cardboard so it holds together on the stairs.
Furniture and mattresses
Couches, recliners, dressers, futons and bed frames. If a piece will not clear the stairwell, we take it apart with hand tools rather than force it past your walls.
Old appliances and equipment
Chest freezers, dehumidifiers, water heaters already disconnected, treadmills and weight benches. Heavy units go up on a dolly with straps, one step at a time.
Water-damaged materials
Wet carpet and pad, swollen shelving and soaked rugs after a leak or seepage. Waterlogged carpet can weigh several times its dry weight, so we cut it into manageable rolls.
Sweep-up after the haul
Once the floor is clear, we sweep the area we emptied. You see the slab and walls, which makes it easier to spot cracks or damp spots that need attention.

When a basement needs clearing out

  • Mildew odor that lingers

Wet cardboard, old fabric and stacks of paper give mildew something to feed on, and that is usually where the smell starts. A dehumidifier cannot keep up as long as that material stays put.

  • Boxes stacked against the furnace or panel

When storage crowds the furnace, water heater or breaker box, any technician has to shift it before starting work, and cardboard near a gas burner is a fire risk. Opening up a clear path to that equipment is a good enough reason on its own.

  • Stains or swelling at the base of shelves

Dark lines or puffy edges on particleboard mean water has wicked up from the floor. Those pieces get weaker every month and are best removed before they collapse.

  • You are selling or finishing the space

Buyers, inspectors and contractors all need to see the walls and slab. An empty basement shows its real condition.

  • After a leak or seepage event

Heavy rain can push water through foundation joints. Getting soaked items out quickly lets the space dry and keeps mildew from spreading.

What moves the price of a basement cleanout

Price follows truck space: the more of the truck bed your items fill, the higher the number. A basement also adds stair labor that a driveway pickup never needs, so access counts too. On the call we go through each factor so you know where the figure comes from.

Total volume

More items means more truck space and more trips up the stairs. A partial cleanout of one corner costs less than emptying the whole room.

Stairs and access

An exterior walkout door is the easiest route. Steep interior stairs with a turn add time, especially for large items.

Heavy or awkward items

Chest freezers, pianos, safes and cast-iron tubs need more crew and equipment. Let us know about these when you call.

Water-soaked items

A rolled-up wet carpet or a sofa that sat in standing water can weigh far more than it did dry. It also needs wrapping so it does not drip on the way to the truck, and both add labor.

Disassembly

Pieces built or assembled in the basement may need to come apart to fit up the stairwell, which adds labor time.

How the cleanout day runs

  1. 1

    Call and describe the space

Give us a rough inventory of what is stored below and how the stairs are laid out. Most of the time we can put a price on it during that call. When it makes more sense for us to look first, we offer free, no-obligation on-site estimates.

  2. 2

    Walk-through and final price

When the crew arrives, you show us what goes and what stays. We confirm the price before any lifting starts, with upfront pricing and no hidden fees.

  3. 3

Protect the path and carry up

We pad tight corners and railings and lay coverings where we cross finished floors. Then we work from the stairs outward so the path stays clear.

  4. 4

    Load, sort and sweep

Items go straight to the truck, and we set aside usable pieces for donation and metal for recycling where we can. We finish by sweeping the cleared floor.

Questions about clearing out a basement

Should I carry things up to the garage or driveway first?

No need. Getting everything up the stairs is the work we are there to do, and stairs are where most lifting injuries happen. Just leave the basement door unlocked and the lights working so the crew can see the steps.

Can you take moldy items?

Yes, we remove mildewed boxes, furniture and carpet as part of the cleanout. We bag them so spores and debris stay contained on the way out. We do not do mold remediation, so if mold is growing on walls or framing, you will want a remediation company after we clear the space.

What about old paint cans and chemicals?

Some items need special handling, including certain paints, solvents and propane tanks. Tell us what you have when you call, and we will say plainly what we can take and what needs a different drop-off.

How long does a full basement take?

A lightly filled basement can be done in a couple of hours. A packed one with heavy items and tight stairs takes longer. We give you a time estimate along with the price.

Do I have to be home?

Someone should be there at the start to confirm what goes and what stays. After that, many customers leave the crew to work and come back to a cleared floor.
